Victor Reader Stream user reviews

I love the stream. The volume is lower even at its max than I would like, but if I am sitting somewhere and not washing dishes or engaging in another activity
that diminishes the volume because of added noise I am making, I think it's adequate, but not with any background noise that may be going on. You can
hook it to a sea crane and increase the volume that way, but the stream alone is not all that powerful. I find the navigation from books to notes to music
very easy and find this device very consumer friendly. I have heard a replacement battery costs $50 which is quite costly, but if the sleep mode is used as it should be, this will save on the battery and one should last for a couple years, I believe.
Recording on the Stream is not in the excellent category, especially when you have a need to record on the phone. The book sense is better for all recording purposes. Having said all this, I think the stream is very consumer friendly, the menus easy to follow, and it is very durable. You can go back and forth in various time intervals which is excellent. SD cards
work well with this device. The companion [software] that is part of the stream or can be downloaded, I believe for older versions makes downloading books easy, although I prefer a card reader which I bought separately.

I use the Victor Reader Stream, in addition to the NLS player. (Victor Reader Stream) strengths include, easy to use, flexible machine with many features, can play NLS books, music, MP3 files, text files and other formats, Cards available to increase capacity (I have the 32 Gig card and I currently have stored 25 NLS books, 40 old-time radio shows in MP3 format, plus all the original files/documentation that came with the machine and I still have about 15 gigs still remaining, excellent tutorial and instructions to guide both the technical novice and more experienced users, text to speech, with two voices available, can bookmark your place in books, can delete books easily, can record notes/messages, has a sleep function, very handy for traveling because of its small size, sixteenh hour battery life, with AC adapter for power and charging, variable speed control, tone and pitch adjustments earphone jack.
Weaknesses include, the (built-in speaker) volume is too low even at its highest level. I dealt with this by purchasing a small speaker to attach, sound quality could be better, again, addressed buy purchase of the small speaker, the internal voices are not very good (considering there are much better options available).
Despite the weaknesses, this is an excellent machine. I don't use it as much now that I have an NLS player, but I love to have it for traveling. Also,
it is great for playing the MP3 radio shows, etc. Overall, I would highly recommend the Victor Reader Stream to others.
